Proven Results With LIPITOR

It is important to do what you can to reduce your risk for heart attack or stroke. Talk to your doctor about whether LIPITOR is right for you.

LIPITOR, along with diet, is clinically proven to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in patients with heart disease or several common risk factors for heart disease. Common risk factors include family history of early heart disease, high blood pressure, low good cholesterol, age, and smoking.

Along with diet, LIPITOR is proven to lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol 39%-60% (average effect depending on dose).

LIPITOR is one of the most widely studied medicines in the world

LIPITOR is backed by:

  • Over 19 years of research
  • Over 400 ongoing or completed clinical trials—involving over 80,000 patients

If LIPITOR is working for you, why switch?

It's important to do what you can to reduce your risk for heart attack or stroke. That's why you and your doctor decided on LIPITOR.

Switching from LIPITOR to a generic cholesterol-lowering medicine may not lead to the same cholesterol-lowering results as with LIPITOR. While there are generic versions of other cholesterol-lowering medications, there is no generic form of LIPITOR currently available.

Before you consider switching to another medication, it's important to learn more about LIPITOR and other cholesterol-lowering medications.

If you switch, you may not get the same cholesterol-lowering results you get with LIPITOR.

  • Your body could respond differently to a different medication
  • The cholesterol level you've achieved could change

Other things to consider:

  • You may need additional blood tests and checkups

LIPITOR is not for everyone. It is not for those with liver problems. And it is not for women who are nursing, pregnant or may become pregnant.

If you take LIPITOR, tell your doctor if you feel any new muscle pain or weakness. This could be a sign of rare but serious muscle side effects. Tell your doctor about all medications you take. This may help avoid serious drug interactions. Your doctor should do blood tests to check your liver function before and during treatment and may adjust your dose.

Common side effects are diarrhea, upset stomach, muscle and joint pain, and changes in some blood tests.
