Keep Up the Good Work With LIPITOR
If you are having success managing your cholesterol with LIPITOR, great! Stick with the program. Remember, LIPITOR can only work to lower cholesterol as long as you continue to take it.
As of November 30, 2011, generic versions of LIPITOR are available. This means your pharmacy may provide you with generic atorvastatin calcium instead of name-brand LIPITOR. However, LIPITOR is still available to you. Ask your doctor about staying on LIPITOR to help manage your cholesterol.
Set Lifelong Goals
It's important to set realistic, attainable goals. These may include cholesterol, diet, and exercise goals.
Work with your doctor to track your progress toward your goals. You may be surprised at how quickly you can lower cholesterol or lose weight. Be sure to talk with your doctor about your expectations.
If you take LIPITOR, join the free My HeartWise Program for LIPITOR Users. The My HeartWise Program gives you access to tips, information, and advice that will help you as you work to develop heart-healthy habits.
Tips to Help You Stay on LIPITOR
By taking LIPITOR, you're making a commitment to try to lower your cholesterol. Here are some tips to help you keep up the good work:
- Ask your doctor about staying on LIPITOR. Talk to your doctor if you want to stay on LIPITOR, even though a generic is available. Make sure your prescription is written for LIPITOR only—no substitutions. With LIPITOR, you can take advantage of special offers, such as the Lipitor For You progam, which includes the LIPITOR $4 Co-Pay Card. Terms and conditions apply
- Fill Your LIPITOR Prescription Regularly. Mark your calendar or date book to remind yourself so you won't run out. And be sure you have enough LIPITOR when you travel
- Continue Your Plan. Take your LIPITOR regularly and continue your diet and exercise plan (as approved by your doctor). Keep a journal of reminders, thoughts, and goals. Seeing your goals in writing will help you remember them
- See Your Doctor. Have regular checkups with your doctor, including blood tests to make sure your cholesterol levels are where your doctor thinks they should be
- Get Information. Sign up for the free My HeartWise program and take advantage of the tools and information you will receive as a member
Remember: Along with diet and exercise, LIPITOR can lower cholesterol. But LIPITOR can only work to lower cholesterol as long as you continue to take it. That's why it's important to continue taking LIPITOR as prescribed even if your cholesterol levels have improved.

LIPITOR is not for everyone. It is not for those with liver problems. And it is not for women who are nursing, pregnant or may become pregnant.
If you take LIPITOR, tell your doctor if you feel any new muscle pain or weakness. This could be a sign of rare but serious muscle side effects. Tell your doctor about all medications you take. This may help avoid serious drug interactions. Your doctor should do blood tests to check your liver function before and during treatment and may adjust your dose.
Common side effects are diarrhea, upset stomach, muscle and joint pain, and changes in some blood tests.
